Happy Holiday, Happy holiday, While the merry bells keep ringing, May your every wish come true

Christmas is only three days away, and I thought I would share one of my favorite holiday recipes. I don’t think Christmas would be the same at our house if we didn’t have this cookie on the plate. I love that you can use whatever sprinkles you like for whatever season it is. This year I picked out ones that match this gorgeous baguette plate!
This recipe is from an amazing family friend that I have known my whole life. She grew up next to my dad, and she has always been my second mom. I am very lucky to have so many great women in my life because my parents have the best lifelong friends! I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as my family does! It’s the most perfect sugar cookie I have ever made.

Barb V’s Sugar Cookies

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 3 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon salt

(You can add 1 teaspoon of peppermint extract to make them peppermint
sugar cookies if you like)

Cream butter, shortening, and sugars, until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, and then the vanilla. Mix the rest of the dry ingredients in a separate bowl and add it to your butter mixture. Refrigerate for a couple of hours. Roll into 1 inch balls. I now roll the ball in sprinkles and press lightly with a glass dipped in sugar to flatten slightly. You can also flatten first and add the sprinkles to the top afterward. I like the whole cookie covered, so I roll in sprinkles.

Bake at 375° for 10 to 12 minutes. Let cool on a wire rack, and store in an airtight container.
