Today’s recipe box is about my love of dishes. At one point I had seven full sets. I have cut that down over the years, but I do still have five. Nothing makes me happier than setting a pretty table and having people over to share a meal. I think I inherited this from my mom. At my mom's, we all sit together around one big table! Food is always placed on the table to be passed, no buffet style. My mom's table settings have an elegance to them, with pretty linens and centerpieces and everything matches, even her Polish pottery.
There is something so beautiful about a well-laid table, that echoes back to my grandma, and great grandmother's time. Families ate together, shared their days and talked to one another around the table. We need to do more of that in our busy lives I think.
I’ve been collecting Polish pottery for roughly 15 years now. I started off with just cobalt blues, yellows and whites since it worked its way into my already existing cobalt everyday dishes. I have expanded over the years, and now have all colors, but the majority is still cobalt. Three years ago when I went to Poland, my cousins and I were in a pottery shop in Kraków, when I found a piece that literally took my breath away. It was one small square dessert plate in True Blue! It had cobalt, turquoise, greens with a dab of yellow and orange in it. It looked like a painting that should be hung on the wall! I fell in love! The mark on it was Zaklady, so I knew I could show it to Twila and get more info. When I got home, I immediately sent her a picture and she told me it was new and in order! Woohoo! Three years later, I still love this pattern so much! It makes my heart sing like no other!

I want to take a moment to thank my mom and Twila for helping me fulfill this dream of mine. I always wanted to be a writer. I took journalism, and yearbook in school, but life got in the way of pursuing my dream of writing. Twila has given me the opportunity to share so many of my loves with you all. I appreciate it more than any of you can ever know. I work full time, retail job Monday through Friday, but when I write, cook and photograph this recipe box every week it gives my soul happy!
As I set this table with the beauty of True Blue, I wish that my mom and Twila were sitting across from me laughing, pouring the wine, and enjoying this meal! Someday.... we will.
